Money News Roundup

If you only do one thing with your money this week...

Compare credit cards and look into giving to your favourite football club with a football credit card.

You can compare credit cards which benefit most major football teams or, if you’re really indecisive, there’s an England team card or just plain premier league card.

The idea is that you support your team as you spend whilst also getting great discounts and rewards on team-related stuff. Plus you get a special credit card.

Utility futility

HERE are some figures to mull over whilst reading your latest utilities bill.

£1.23bn and €1.96bn. The annual pre-tax profits of Scottish & Southern Energy and ScottishPower respectively.

78%. The increase in Scottish Power’s profits from last year.

At least 4%. The profit increase Scottish & Southern have promised their shareholders profits for 2009 and 2010.

And finally: £168. The amount that the average British electricity bill has gone up by in the last five years.

Hmmm.

Pension Delays

OVER 60% of consumers are facing delays in getting their hands on their pension money after changing provider the FSA found this week.

Worryingly, people were more likely to experience problems when following sound advice and saving by shopping around for an annuity.

In response to the FSA report the Association of British Insurers claimed it was also working with members to significantly improve transfer times.

Muslim Moneymaking

THE Qur’an has much to say on money and how to make it.

Earning or paying interest is prohibited, for example; so mortgages, investments and savings have to be slightly tweaked to accommodate Islamic law.

However, the versatility of these products is making non-Muslims sit up and take notice.

Sharia-compliant mortgages avoid interest rate uncertainty altogether, so you know exactly how much your house will cost you.

Islamic insurance, which shares risk between policy-holders, is also now available. Claims are paid out of the joint fund and any money left at the end of the year is given back to policy-holders as a discount for the next year.

And Finally, if you only do one thing this week...

AND finally, if you only do one thing this financial week then compare credit cards and look into giving to your favourite football club with a football credit card.

I’m not going to lie, I’m not so much into football but the Olympics are coming up and it’s getting more and more difficult not to be a sport enthusiast. Call it a peace offering.
