Cash wielding shoppers losing out on cash back
As more Britons turn to cash instead of plastic, a fortune in credit card cash back rewards is being neglected.

THERE’S no better cure for a hard day’s shopping then a good chat on the phone and with the new BT credit card the two make an even better partnership.

The more you spend with the Visa card, the more you’ll get off your BT phone bill. Simple.

The card itself isn't bad, either.

The BT Credit Card offers 0% on balance transfers for the first 12 months, 0% on purchases for the first three months and 16.9% APR thereafter.

You also get entered into a prize draw which could win you a 42” TV or a four night trip to Beijing for the Olympics.

How does it work?

The discount works out as a penny off your phone bill for every £2 you spend up to £250 and a penny for every £1 when you spend more than that.

You’ll only get money back on your bill for retail purchases made with your card.

Cash or cheque transactions and balance transfers won’t earn your anything.

That means that you’ll get £3 off your quarterly bill if you normally spend £200 a month and £11.25 off if you normally spend £500 a month.

The discount is capped at £75 a year – around £18.75 a quarter. So after you spend £750 a month you stop saving on your bill.

However, you are allowed to have multiple cards discounting the same phone bill provided that they have the same billing address as the phone number.

So, if you and your partner or housemate both get the card you could save twice as much!

The Small Print

To get this card your telephone number must be located at your billing address.

You are not eligible for the card if you have a BT Mobile, BT Broadband Talk, BT Openzone or BT Business account.

You could lose your discount points and your card privileges if you are more than 30 days late with a payment to BT, you exceed your credit limit, enter into an arrangement with creditors, are made bankrupt or are investigated for fraud.

Needless to say, if you feel that any of these are likely to happen to you it’s not advisable to get a credit card of any sort.
