Who gets you flying the furthest: BA, AirMiles or Tesco?
Just which is the best air miles credit card? If you are collecting frequent flyer miles with your credit card, see Sarah Wray's investigation into BA Miles or AirMiles.

FREQUENT flyers and pocket-pinched travellers lamenting the end of low-cost flyers have just days to take advantage of the British Airways credit card’s bonus BA miles offer.

Until the 30th of June 2008, new customers and existing British Airways credit card holders have the chance to boost their BA Miles tally by spending a certain amount on the card.

Free or reduced cost flights

BA Miles are a form of frequent flyer miles, much like Air Miles, which can be accumulated by spending on the British Airways credit card and redeemed in the form of free or reduced cost flights.

Customers taking out the credit card for the first time will automatically receive 1000 BA miles just for using the card.

Bonus BA Miles offer

But spend £2000 in the first three months and you’ll get an addition 2000 BA miles on top of your initial 1000 BA miles bonus.

For every £1 you spend thereafter, you’ll earn another BA Mile.

You’ll need 9,000 BA Miles for a free return flight to Paris.

You can also buy BA flight tickets using part cash, part miles with British Airways claiming they have improved the rates for this kind of purchase.

Free companion flight

An additional bonus is offered in the form of a free additional ticket for a companion when you redeem your miles and you have spent over £20,000 on the card in a year.

Serious users of this BA Miles scheme would need to use the card for all purchases, including shopping, booking holidays, paying bills etc. to get the most of the scheme.

Pay on time

The British Airways credit card, which is issued by American Express offers a slightly higher-than-standard 17.9% APR, but anyone using the card to collect BA Miles would need to pay off the balance in full and on time each month to avoid negating the value of the rewards anyway.

As such, the APR is of little concern in this case, and this type of credit card user would be best suited to a low rate credit card instead (you can compare low rate credit cards here).
