The following information is based on general factual research about how the product compares in the market, it shouldn't be taken as a recommendation or advice.
The Sainsbury's Gold credit card is the supermarket's travel credit card offering.
It offers 0% commission on purchases abroad, worldwide travel insurance and a better deal than most cards on cash advances.
It's also one of the few Sainsbury's credit cards which also doubles as a Nectar rewards card: cardholders collect 1 point for every £5 spent.
The drawback? It charges a £5 monthly fee.
The Sainsbury's Gold credit card offers one of the top deals for use abroad currently available in the market - and is arguably the best on rates alone.
The only thing that holds it back is the £5 monthly fee, which means cardholders really need to make use of the additional perks to make holding the card worthwhile.
The Sainsbury's Gold credit card charges 0% commission on use abroad, so cardholders will escape the average 2.75% charge for converting foreign currency to sterling.
It stands out in the use abroad category though for offering 0% fees on cash advances and including these transactions in the standard interest free period.
Considering cash advances form an umbrella over transactions such as buying foreign currency and traveller's cheques as well as withdrawing money from an ATM - being able to do these things fee-free and without interest if the balance is repaid in full each month, really make for a much more use abroad friendly option.
A combination like this on rates for purchasing foreign currency, accessing cash and general purchases abroad is currently unmatched in the market.
The most important thing to factor in with the Sainsbury's Gold credit card, however, is the £5 monthly fee.
Like packaged current accounts, unless cardholders are really going to use the perks included the deal is unlikely to be worth it.
For example, if you only take one holiday a year and single trip travel insurance would be cheaper, there are other use abroad credit cards that offer cheap foreign spending without fees.
The Sainsbury's Gold credit card packages an annual family worldwide travel insurance policy.
The policy covers two adults under 65 and up to 6 children up to the age of 16 (or 23 if they're full time students) and includes up to 17 days of winter sports cover each year.
Always check the policy small print carefully to ensure the cover is adequate and that you're covered at all, before relying on it.
It's strikingly strange but Sainsbury's don't offer Nectar points on all of their credit cards.
In fact, aside from the "Nectar credit card", this Gold credit card is the only other in the range to allow cardholders the chance to earn Nectar points on credit card spending.
Cardholders will earn 2 Nectar points per £1 spent at Sainsbury's (including those earned on the Nectar loyalty card) and 1 Nectar point for every £5 spent on non-Sainsbury's purchases (including Sainsbury's telecoms).
The Sainsbury's Gold credit card is one of the best travel credit cards currently available on the market.
But, like a packaged current account, customers should make sure the deal will benefit them due to the monthly fee.
