LLOYDS TSB became the bank of choice for the AirMiles reward scheme a few years ago and, now revamped as Avios, is still holding its place.
Until very recently, it was a unique offering in that the account came with both an American Express card as well as a MasterCard (now adopted by Virgin Atlantic).
There is no difference apart from the payment technology - transactions from either card go onto the same account and are charged in the same way.
The difference, however, comes down to the number of Avios earned on each card, likely due to the cost incurred by the issuer for using either payment company.
The American Express credit card earns 1 Avios for every £1 spent.
The MasterCard earns 1 Avios for every £5 spent.
At that rate, it's clear the American Express will earn the most Avios but it's handy to have a MasterCard as well as Amex is notoriously not accepted everywhere.
For anyone already on or interested in the Avios reward scheme, we've covered a comparison of Avios earnings between this card and pooling Tesco Clubcard points in this guide.
The Lloyds TSB Duo Avios credit card also offers the following opportunities to earn bonus miles:
It is worth approaching some of these incentives with caution though - balance transfers and rewards generally don't mix on credit cards and additionally this card isn't noticeably cheap for use abroad.
It is worth noting that, although different schemes accrue more points, they're likely to get around the same reward on spending - see our FAQ section for more on how much airmiles in different schemes are worth.
Redeeming Avios for flights is based on a zone system. The closest European flights are available in return for a combination of Avios points and a flat £27 rate for every return flight.
So, for example return to Berlin would be 9000 Avios (or £9,000 spent on the American Express card) plus £27, which also covers all taxes and airline fees.
Flying further means paying in a mixture of Avios points and then the applicable taxes and fees for the flight.
Although the Lloyds TSB Duo Avios credit card might be good for getting you abroad it's not particularly cheap when you actually get there.
There's a 2.95% fee on all foreign transactions.
In common with other credit cards, the Lloyds TSB Duo Avios credit card isn't cheap for accessing cash either - including buying foreign currency - there's a 3% fee (minimum £3.00) on every cash transaction and then interest is charged at 27.95% p.a. variable with no interest-free period.
Avios is a well known and broad travel reward scheme, for new users or people already on the scheme, the Lloyds TSB Duo Avios credit card offers an additional way to earn Avios.

If you pay more than the amount due shown on your statement, they will use any remaining payment to pay off Transactions that have not yet appeared on your statement in the same order as those that do appear on your statement. In this condition, "Transaction" includes the amount of the Purchase, Cash Withdrawal, Cheque or Balance Transfer plus any interest, charges or insurance payment charged as a result of that Transaction.
