Connection speeds of at least 100Mb now reaches over 75% of the UK according to Ofcom, with gigabit broadband reaching 73%.
Alongside growing availability, 100Mb broadband is affordable too, with prices as little as £20 per month for customers living in select parts of London, and from £26 nationwide.

Verdict: Who offers the best 100Mb broadband?
Different broadband providers come out on top when we look at availability, price, reliability and premium features. So, there's plenty of room in the market for households to find a 100Mb broadband deal that suits their needs.
Here are some of the best 100Mb broadband deals available in the UK today:
- Community Fibre - The cheapest 100Mb+ deal available at just £20 per month, but availability is limited to London homes
- Virgin Media - The most widely available 100Mb broadband in the UK, available to over 16.1 million homes
- Plusnet - the most reliable broadband provider offering a 100Mb+ deal over the Openreach network for over 10 million homes
- Vodafone - their Pro II 100Mb deal offers the most advance WiFi 6E router with an automatic 4G backup and whole home WiFi guarantee
Availability is likely to be the main factor when choosing from the providers listed above however, or any full fibre provider for that matter, with only 9% of the UK currently able to choose from two or more full fibre networks.
Ultrafast broadband speeds
We look at packages with average download speeds between 100Mb and 150Mb per second in this guide, as many providers have opted to increase the speed of their entry-level ultrafast package.
While there has previously been controversy around advertised broadband speeds and actual real-world speeds, current advertising regulation means that at least 50% of customers must receive the headline speed at peak times (between 8pm and 10pm).
One further point: 100Mb broadband is now defined as 'superfast' by Ofcom, following a change in terminology back in 2015. Yet despite this, and rather confusingly so, the Government has a separate definition of ultrafast which includes 100Mb.
In practice, we see many 100Mb packages labelled as superfast by some providers and ultrafast by others. Our advice is always to double-check the average download (and upload) speeds and what technology is used for the connection to really understand how fast and reliable the broadband line will actually be.
Cheapest 100Mb broadband
Community Fibre currently offer the cheapest 100Mb+ broadband deal with their 150Mb Fibre Broadband plan, offering average download and upload speeds of 150Mb.
For customers willing to commit to a 24-month contract it is the cheapest broadband plan in the UK, although the provider also offers a 12-month option for a couple of pounds more.

The low cost of broadband deals on Community Fibre's dedicated full fibre network is one of their major selling points, but it's important to note they only operate within London and even then, their coverage has only reached 932,000 homes so far.
While they have plans to expand to 2.2 million premises in London by the end of 2024, for most people they're going to remain unavailable.

Despite Community Fibre's limited availability there are many nationally available broadband providers offering 100Mb broadband at competitive prices.

While the packages from BT and Plusnet are a little more expensive, they also offer faster download speeds closer to 150Mb per second, which is almost 50% faster than the cheapest deal from Vodafone.
Smaller full fibre providers are also worth considering when searching for affordable 100Mb broadband deals.
These providers are often dedicated to rollouts within certain areas or on a town-by-town basis. To set them apart from the big-name rivals they are usually competitively prices.

Full fibre broadband providers are becoming increasingly keen to encourage customers to upgrade from superfast fibre to the cabinet and copper broadband connections to the ultrafast speeds offered by full fibre.
Predominantly this is due to the closure of the copper phone line network which is often used for superfast broadband delivery. Due to close in 2025, BT Group are planning to further reduce the wholesale price of full fibre, while simultaneously making copper products less attractive in a bid to prompt customers to upgrade.

Most widely available 100Mb broadband
Virgin Media offer the most widely available 100Mb+ broadband service, covering 16 million premises across the UK.
The M125 package has recently been upgraded from offering average download speeds of 108Mb to now offering 132Mb for the same price.
M125 can be taken with or without a home phone line, however the broadband only deal is currently the cheapest option. Customers can also bundle a Virgin Media TV service if they wish.

Most reliable 100Mb broadband
Plusnet are the most reliable 100Mb broadband provider, offering the Plusnet Full Fibre 145 package over the Openreach fibre to the home network.
Coming first in our guide to the most reliable broadband providers, Plusnet has both the lowest fault levels according to independent research by Ofcom, as well as the lowest percentage of customers who have to contact them more than once about the same fault, which means Plusnet are resolving faults quickly.
Plusnet also has the highest level of satisfied customers out of all the main providers.

Not only does Plusnet as a provider score highly for reliability metrics, but the underlying Openreach fibre to the home network they use does too.
Ofcom data, most recently published in March 2023, so far only covers BT fibre to the premises, but we can clearly see a difference between this and other broadband connections like Virgin Media as well as BT fibre to the cabinet.

From the table above, we can clearly see a marked improvement on several metrics for Openreach fibre to the premises (FTTP) in comparison to the Openreach fibre to the cabinet and Virgin Media connections.
While Virgin Media currently have the lead on Openreach for ultrafast broadband availability, BT have rapid expansion plans, with targets to reach 25 million premises by the end of 2026. So far, they've passed over 10 million premises and have an on-going build rate of 62,000 per week.

For customers who want a more premium 100Mb broadband service, for example for those working from home, or more active Internet homes, there are two note-worthy options: Vodafone Pro II Full Fibre 100 and BT Full Fibre 100.

Vodafone Pro II
Vodafone's latest Pro II offering brings a range of additional features to their home broadband deals, including:
- Most advanced WiFi 6E router
- Super WiFi guarantee for whole home WiFi
- Automatic 4G broadband back-up
- 12 months free Norton 360 Premium
Customers who combine broadband and mobile services will also be eligible for the Vodafone Together discount of up to £3 per month.
BT Full Fibre
BT offer most of their premium features in add-ons customers can add to their package. However, all BT broadband packages come with the following additional features:
- Two devices covered free by BT Virus Protect powered by Norton (option to upgrade to cover 15 devices available)
- Free access to five million BT WiFi hotspots across the UK
Customers can then choose to add:
- Complete WiFi for a whole home WiFi guarantee, for £12/pm extra
- Hybrid Connect for a 4G back-up solution provided by EE, for £7/pm extra
It's also possible for existing BT customers to access these extras through the BT Halo 3 and BT Halo 3+ add-ons.
While these add-ons increase the price of BT Full Fibre they offer similar features to that of Vodafone Pro II broadband.
Is 100Mb broadband fast enough?
The median average download speed in the UK is 65.3Mb according to Ofcom research published in March 2023.
Whilst Ofcom latest Connected Nations report puts coverage of 100Mb+ broadband at 75% of the UK, take-up of full fibre broadband is thought to be around 25%, although BT report take-up of 29% on the Openreach FTTP network.
Either way, despite the fact 100Mb broadband will soon become the base line norm in the UK as the entry-level full fibre speed, there is still a majority of homes who can access faster speeds but are yet to do so.
However, where people do upgrade to full fibre, Ofcom has reported around half of all customers choose a 100Mb package, with just 7% opting for the fastest gigabit deals.
This suggest 100Mb is more than adequate in terms of download speed for the majority of households, and is still 35Mb faster than the UK's current average.
Overall, full fibre is better equipped at delivering stable and reliable broadband connections, with fewer disconnections, faster latency, and is unaffected by distance from the nearest telecoms cabinet or exchange.
G.fast 100Mb broadband
It's worth noting here there are some broadband deals available that exceed 100Mb in download speed but are delivered using the older fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) technology.
G.fast, once seen as the future of UK broadband, is available on the Openreach FTTC network and boosts a standard FTTC connection at the cabinet. This means it can deliver faster speeds of up to 350Mb, compared to the usual headline 60-70Mb.
While BT themselves no longer sell it, it's currently still available from providers including TalkTalk, Shell Energy Broadband, Sky, and EE. It usually sold in a package offering average download speeds of 145Mb, but TalkTalk and Shell Energy Broadband also offer 290Mb plans.
G.Fast is only available to just under 2 million premises across the UK, so it's already been overtaken by the full fibre rollout by quite some distance. It's also very unlikely to be further expanded now BT have set their sights on full fibre and are closing the copper phone line network G.fast relies upon.
Overall, where available a 100Mb full fibre connection is likely going to be more stable and reliable than a 100Mb G.Fast connection.
Faster than 100Mb
For people looking for even faster speeds than 100Mb broadband, they have plenty of options available to them, with gigabit broadband now reaching 73% of the UK.
And in fact, wherever 100Mb is available, it's likely faster speeds of up to 900Mb-1Gb will be available too, albeit for a higher cost.
Virgin Media for example also offer their M250, M350, M500 and Gig1 broadband packages. Likewise, even budget providers such as Plusnet and TalkTalk now offer a gigabit-capable package.
100Mb is increasingly seen as a bridging option to encourage customers to take-up ultrafast and full fibre broadband connections, so this is likely to continue as the sweet-spot for the most competitive pricing.
Summary: Plentiful 100Mbps broadband options
100Mbps broadband is more widely available than ever before thanks to rollouts from Openreach, Virgin Media, and other networks including CityFibre, Community Fibre in London, and Gigaclear in more rural areas.
Over two thirds of households around the UK are now able to access speeds of 100Mb or more, although so far only around 2.5 million premises have a choice of more than one fibre network.
