Can I get Sky Sports without Sky TV?
People who don't have Sky TV don't have to go without Sky Sports, as it's possible to get it from all of the biggest pay TV providers. What might differ from provider to provider is the exact number of channels and the price we'll pay for them, but as the table above shows, they all include Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 in their deals.
The full Sky Sports line up consists of seven channels: Sky Sports 1 to 5, Sky Sports F1 and Sky Sports News HQ. The last of these may often appear to be missing from the Sky Sports packs from other providers, but it's often found in their standard channel lists instead. Do be aware, however, that some providers only sell Sky Sports 1 and 2.
It's also worth considering the other sports channels available with different providers – most offer British Eurosport, but ESPN only comes with BT Sport. Then there are the more specialised channels which vary from provider to provider and cover racing, boxing, American sports and individual football teams.
Where can I get Sky Sports cheapest?
There are a couple of ways to make getting Sky Sports cheaper. The table above shows the total cost of each deal, so if getting a complete package that includes Sky Sports for the cheapest possible price is key, it's simple enough to find the best all-in deals.
Some providers only offer Sky Sports 1 and 2, or give subscribers the option of taking one or two of these channels, at a lower price. This is well worth it for people who know they're only interested in the sports and events that tend to get top billing, like the Barclays Premier League, the Ryder Cup or the Ashes.
Those who want the full range of channels should remember that the competition between the providers means there are plenty of special offers available. As well as looking for deals on Sky Sports in particular, remember that saving on another service we'd be taking anyway is also worth it. Filter the table using the Top Deals tab to find the biggest savings and offers available right now.
What events can I watch on Sky Sports?
Sky Sports is so successful because it has the widest coverage of the most popular sporting events. It shows about three times more live Barclays Premier League football games than BT Sport, including Sunday and weekday fixtures; there's also more in the way of highlights from non-televised matches.
Sky Sports is the only place to watch full Formula 1 coverage, England Rugby internationals, and every England cricket Test series – and the UK legs of the Ashes. Live golf coverage includes the European Tour, the Ryder Cup, the US PGA Tour, and the World Golf Championship. Darts has seen something of a revival, with the Grand Slam and then the World Darts Championship among the events shown on the channels.
Tennis, rugby league, European rugby union and international football qualifiers are also well covered.
Can I watch Sky Sports online?
People who take Sky Sports from either Sky TV or Virgin Media can watch online or on a variety of devices, through a couple of different apps. The Sky Sports app offers live streams of all the channels – and the iPad version includes extra content and features for each event.
There's also a Sky Sports Mobile TV app available to everyone, but it's aimed mainly at those who don't take Sky Sports from either Sky or Virgin, and who will therefore have to pay a monthly subscription to watch.
